About Harmonium

Vanessa Carlton’s second studio album Harmonium was released in 2004. The album features 11 tracks, all written or co-written by Carlton herself. It is characterized by her distinct piano-driven pop sound, with influences of classical and folk music.

Harmonium contains some of Carlton’s most well-known songs, such as “White Houses” and “Who’s to Say”. “White Houses” is a melancholic, nostalgic tune about a past summer love, while “Who’s to Say” is a more upbeat and optimistic track about taking risks and following one’s dreams. The album also features collaborations with other artists such as Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac on “She Floats” and Stevie Nicks on “The One”.

Harmonium received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Carlton’s songwriting and piano playing. It was a commercial success, reaching the top 40 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 200,000 copies in the United States.
